How To Use Your PS3 Controller On Your Mac

I have been searching for a quick and easy guide on how to use your PS3 controller on your Mac to play games. As the PS3 controller has bluetooth, I thought it would be pretty straight forward to use the controller on my Mac. It turns out...it is!

It is easy to set your PS3 controller up on your Mac. Fortunately, Mac has built in support for the PS3 controller so no software downloads or installs necessary, and it is so easy to do.

1. Firstly, you need to enable bluetooth on your mac. This can be done by clicking on the bluetooth icon in the menu bar. If you don't have the bluetooth icon visible, you need to go to settings (by clicking the settings icon in your dock), then you need to go to "Bluetooth". Make sure the check box is checked to enable bluetooth.
2. Now we have bluetooth enabled, we can move onto enabling the controller to accept the connection. To do this, you will need the usb charging cable. This is what you need to do:
3. With the charging cable plugged into the computer but NOT into your controller, hit the PS button.
4. About 3 seconds after hitting the PS button insert the other end of the USB cable into your controller. A screen may pop up requestiong a pairing code. If so, just enter "0" (without quotes).
5. Wait for a bit. If done correctly, you should see the bluetooth icon change. It should be the bluetooth icon with black horizontal dots in front of it. This means your PS3 controller is now connected and ready to go.

Now we have our controller connected, it is time to fire up our game and give it a test. It works with every game I have tested so far, although I have only tested Dirt 2, Call Of Duty 4 and Modern Warfare 2.
